A path to succes

3D rendering of the trophy we won

Hackathons are filled with people who are good at programming and designing. It’s very tempting to start coding right away, however this might not be the best strategy if you are in it to win it.

What is a Hackathon?

The concept of a hackathon is to create (hack) something in a short amount of time. Most of these hackathons include programming in some sort or form. There are many different flavors of hackathons and this is very important to keep in mind if you want to rank high.

I distinguish hackathons in two main types. One with a theme where it’s all about…

I learned the art of Artificial Intelligence, but was it worth it?

Artificial Intelligence sounds freaking amazing: humanoid robots, artificial conscious, self learning systems and understanding the human brain. I won’t lie; these were the things that motivated me to look into Artificial Intelligence. And till a certain extent they still do.

I started out doing Physics and Life Sciences. One thing that caught my attention was the advancements in the field of so called “Artificial Neural Networks”. So I grabbed my laptop and ambitiously started writing my own implementation of these exotic Artificial Neural Networks. However, after a week the project became too time consuming. …

And what happends when you eat them?

Food and Artificial Intelligence, two topics that are dear to my heart. I love watching Master Chef and wonder about how those dishes would taste. On the other hand I love to work on Artificial Intelligence. So why not combine the two?

Artificial generated recipe website

I have set myself the goal to generate a diverse set of new eatable recipes all generated by Artificial Intelligence. But why not go just that one step further and create a whole website with recipes that you can show it (off) to others!

I think that ten year ago most people would probably have thought that this…

And the struggles of practising the tricks

I have been working with Machine Learning for a couple of years and now as an instructor at School of Data Science. At first it felt like magic: you have some data (in my case computer game data), insert it in a model (in my case a Neural Network) and you get a good result! Just like with “real” magic, the trick does get less magical when you know what is going on. However, just like with “real” magic, this doesn’t make it less amazing!

The magic of Machine Learning

It’s extremely powerful to draw the right conclusion given a certain situation. This could be…

I do machine learning and robotics and stuff.
